Bucanero is an advanced dive near Santiago de Cuba on Cuba's southeastern coast. This historic site near the Bucanero bay features dramatic reef walls and deep coral formations along the Sierra Maestra mountain range's coastal drop-off. The steep underwater terrain creates spectacular wall diving with healthy gorgonians, black coral, and massive sponge formations. The nutrient-rich Caribbean currents attract large pelagic species including jacks, barracuda, and occasional reef sharks. Santiago de Cuba's remote diving scene means virtually untouched reefs and minimal diver traffic, offering advanced divers a raw and authentic Caribbean diving experience far from Cuba's tourist centers.
