Mala, at Charco del Palo on Lanzarote's northeast coast, is a wild and unspoiled dive site offering raw volcanic underwater landscapes. This beginner-friendly site features dramatic lava flows that continue beneath the surface, creating tunnels, caverns, and overhangs rich with marine life. The exposed northeast coast brings nutrient-rich Atlantic currents that support thriving populations of groupers, barracuda, and large schools of salema. The rocky substrate is home to octopuses, moray eels, and numerous nudibranch species, while angel sharks frequent the sandy channels between rock formations during winter. This off-the-beaten-path site rewards adventurous divers with fewer crowds and authentic Canarian diving.
