The Dalton wreck at Île du Planier is one of the iconic dives off Marseille, lying at around 33 meters depth near this famous lighthouse island. This cargo ship sank after striking rocks near the island and now rests on a sandy bottom, its structure well-colonized by Mediterranean marine life. Large conger eels inhabit the hull spaces, while gorgonian fans and yellow sponges cover the metalwork. The wreck attracts schools of barracuda, anthias, and damselfish that create a living cloud around the superstructure. As an advanced dive with generally excellent offshore visibility, the Dalton is a must-do for wreck diving enthusiasts visiting Marseille and the Calanques coast.
