Browns Bay is a shore dive site near Whitley Bay on the Northumberland coast, offering North Sea diving from a rocky bay with interesting underwater terrain. The volcanic rock formations create gullies, ledges, and overhangs that shelter a variety of marine life. Crabs, lobsters, blennies, sea scorpions, and butterfish are commonly encountered, along with colorful dahlia and plumose anemones. Kelp forests sway in the current, and in autumn, grey seal pups from the nearby Farne Islands occasionally visit. The advanced rating reflects North Sea exposure, cold temperatures, and potential surge. Browns Bay provides a rewarding shore dive for experienced divers based in Tyneside, with easy parking and relatively straightforward access.
