Dover Shakespeare Beach is a shore dive at the base of the famous White Cliffs of Dover in Kent, offering beginner-friendly diving in the English Channel. The pebbly beach provides easy entry to a seabed of chalk boulders, rocky ledges, and sandy patches that support surprising marine diversity. Lobsters, edible crabs, wrasse, blennies, and various nudibranchs inhabit the chalk reef environment. The unique chalk geology creates a distinctly white underwater landscape unlike typical UK dive sites. Visibility can be variable in these busy shipping lane waters, but calm days reveal an interesting and underrated dive site. The iconic White Cliffs rising above add a patriotic backdrop to this accessible south coast dive.
