Nivati Rock Lighthouse is an intermediate dive site off the coast of Sindhudurg in Goa-Karnataka border region, where a rocky reef around a lighthouse-marked rock formation descends to 22 meters in the Arabian Sea. The volcanic rock substrate is covered with hard corals, sponges, and algae that support a diverse community of Indo-Pacific reef fish. The site is known for its healthy populations of groupers, snappers, and sweetlips that congregate around the rocky formations. Barracuda schools are regularly encountered in the blue water above the reef, and sea turtles visit during migration periods. The rock formations create interesting swim-throughs and overhangs where lobsters and moray eels shelter. Visibility varies with the season but can exceed 15 meters during the calm months of October to May. Nivati Rock Lighthouse represents the growing recognition of India's western coast as a diving destination, offering genuine reef encounters in waters that remain largely unexplored by the recreational diving community.
