Ancient Roman Harbour is a beginner-friendly archaeological dive site off Ustica island in Sicily, where the submerged remains of a Roman-era port facility lie in just 10 meters of water. This unique site allows divers of all levels to swim over ancient stone moorings, ballast piles, and fragments of amphorae that once carried wine, oil, and garum across the Mediterranean. The shallow depth ensures excellent natural lighting, illuminating both the archaeological features and the marine life that has colonized them over two millennia. Small groupers, octopuses, and wrasses make their homes among the ancient stones, while Posidonia meadows frame the site's perimeter. The combination of accessible archaeology and Mediterranean marine life makes this one of Ustica's most unique offerings — a living museum where Roman maritime heritage meets the island's thriving underwater ecosystem.
