Cape Hedo Dome is an advanced dive site at the northernmost tip of Okinawa's main island, where a massive underwater dome formation creates one of the most dramatic landscapes in Japanese diving. The dome is a large, rounded cavern carved from the limestone reef, its ceiling high enough to hold several divers comfortably. Natural openings allow sunlight to pierce the interior, creating spectacular light beams that shift and dance with the surface waves. The surrounding reef drops into deep water where strong currents bring nutrient-rich water, attracting hammerhead sharks in winter months and large pelagic schools year-round. The outer walls feature dense gorgonian coverage and healthy soft coral growth. Cape Hedo's remote location at Okinawa's extreme north means fewer divers and a wilder underwater experience, but the currents and exposure demand advanced skills and careful timing with weather conditions.
