Greg's Wall is an advanced dive site in Madagascar's Radama Archipelago, off the island's northwestern coast. This remote wall dive in the Mozambique Channel offers pristine diving conditions in one of the Indian Ocean's least-visited marine environments, where healthy reef ecosystems remain largely untouched by human impact. The wall at Greg's descends dramatically from the shallow reef crest into the deeper waters of the channel, with the vertical face providing a canvas for spectacular marine growth. The reef's remote location, far from significant population centres and tourist infrastructure, means it has escaped the pressures that affect more accessible sites, resulting in coral coverage and fish abundance that evoke descriptions of how reefs looked decades ago. Coral coverage on the wall is exceptional, with dense hard coral growth on the upper sections and impressive soft coral and gorgonian displays at depth. The warm, nutrient-rich waters of the Mozambique Channel fuel prolific marine growth, with barrel sponges, sea fans, and black coral colonies of impressive size decorating the wall face. The diversity of coral species reflects the Indian Ocean's rich biodiversity, with many species shared with the more famous reefs of the Maldives and Seychelles. Marine life at Greg's Wall is outstanding, with the pristine conditions supporting healthy populations at every level of the food chain. Schools of fusiliers and anthias swarm above the reef crest, while larger predators including groupers, trevally, and reef sharks patrol the wall. Sea turtles are frequently encountered, and during the right season, humpback whales pass through the channel on their migration, their songs audible to divers on the wall. The advanced rating reflects the remote location, depth, and potential for strong current in the channel. Access to the Radama Archipelago requires dedicated liveaboard expeditions. Visibility frequently exceeds 25 metres, with water temperatures averaging 26 to 29 degrees. Greg's Wall represents Madagascar diving at its finest.
