Dhiffushi Kandu is an advanced channel dive in Kolhumadulu Atoll (Thaa Atoll), where one of this remote southern atoll's passages delivers the powerful drift diving and marine encounters that make Maldivian kandu diving a globally celebrated experience. Thaa Atoll receives far fewer divers than the central atolls, and the marine life reflects this lighter pressure with healthier reefs, larger fish, and the natural behavior that characterizes undisturbed ecosystems. The current captures divers on entry, initiating the drift through a channel decorated with the spectacular soft coral growth that nutrient-rich tidal flow generates. Gorgonian fans of impressive size extend from the walls, branching soft corals create vivid displays on the overhangs, and the biological density throughout the passage reflects the exceptional productivity of Thaa's channels. The overhangs shelter dense fish aggregations — sweetlips, snappers, and the shimmering masses of sweepers characteristic of quality kandu dives. Grey reef sharks are reliably present, patrolling the channel with the natural confidence of apex predators in minimally disturbed waters. Eagle rays sweep through with characteristic grace, and schools of trevally and barracuda create powerful formations in the water column. The remote location means hammerhead sightings in the deeper water are a realistic possibility. Dhiffushi Kandu delivers advanced channel diving in the remote waters of Thaa Atoll, where the marine ecosystem has been preserved in a condition that rewards the effort of reaching these distant southern Maldivian waters with encounters of authentic quality and power.
