Bodu Hohola is an advanced dive site in Addu Atoll reaching forty meters depth, where dramatic reef topography and powerful pelagic encounters create one of the southernmost atoll's most exciting dives. The site features a substantial reef formation with walls, caves, and overhangs that provide habitat for larger marine species in the deep, current-influenced waters of the Maldives' equatorial atoll. The descent drops through clear water to a reef system where the terrain becomes increasingly dramatic with depth. Massive overhangs project from the reef face, their undersides decorated with the vivid soft corals and sponges that thrive in reduced light. The deeper sections harbor species adapted to the lower levels of the reef — large groupers in the cave entrances, and the shy deep-water species that retreat from the reach of most recreational divers. Grey reef sharks patrol the deeper reef edge in confident groups, and the site's exposure to oceanic currents means larger pelagic visitors are possible — eagle rays, manta rays during seasonal visits, and the occasional hammerhead in the deeper blue. Schools of trevally and barracuda add dynamic energy to the water column. The reef supports healthy coral communities at all depths, with hard corals dominant in the shallows and spectacular soft coral growth decorating the deeper walls and overhangs. The biological richness throughout the depth range creates a complete ecosystem that rewards exploration at every level. Bodu Hohola delivers advanced Addu diving at its most powerful — deep reef exploration in equatorial waters where dramatic topography and robust marine life combine to create diving of genuine intensity and beauty.
