Caccerees Sunken Island The Wall is an advanced dive site in the Philippine Visayas where a submerged seamount features dramatic wall diving in the deep waters between the islands. This offshore formation combines the excitement of seamount diving with the spectacular marine growth of a vertical reef face, creating one of the region's most impressive advanced dive experiences. The sunken island rises from the deep waters as an isolated underwater formation, its walls dropping steeply from the shallow summit into the surrounding depths. The wall sections provide classic vertical diving where the reef face plunges into blue infinity, creating the dramatic sense of depth and exposure that makes wall diving among the most exhilarating forms of recreational diving. The seamount's isolation in open water means that the walls are swept by currents that deliver nutrients from the surrounding deep ocean. The advanced rating reflects the combination of depth, current exposure, and the offshore position that characterizes this site. Strong currents are common, generated by the tidal exchange through the island channels, and their interaction with the seamount creates complex water movement including potential downcurrents along the wall face. Gas management at depth must account for the physical exertion of managing position in current, and the offshore location means that surface support may be distant. Marine growth on the wall is spectacular, benefiting from the nutrient-rich currents that bathe the seamount. Gorgonian sea fans of extraordinary size spread across the current-exposed faces, while barrel sponges and encrusting organisms coat every surface. Hard corals dominate the upper wall sections where light penetration is sufficient, and the deeper zones support the black corals and deep-water gorgonians that characterize the twilight zone of Indo-Pacific walls. The seamount acts as a magnet for pelagic species, concentrating marine traffic from the surrounding deep water. Schools of jacks, barracuda, and trevally circle the formation, while reef sharks patrol the wall edges. The summit supports dense fish populations that use the elevated reef platform for feeding and shelter, and the transition zone between the summit and the wall provides particularly rich biodiversity. Caccerees Sunken Island The Wall offers advanced divers one of the Philippine Visayas' most dramatic underwater experiences, where the thrill of offshore seamount diving meets the spectacular marine growth of a deep vertical reef.
