Qita El Banna is an intermediate dive site in the northern Sudanese Red Sea, where a reef system provides healthy coral formations and reliable marine encounters accessible to a broader range of divers than the region's advanced sites. The intermediate classification opens this section of Sudan's exceptional underwater environment to well-prepared divers who may not yet have the experience for the most demanding sites. The reef at Qita El Banna features the healthy coral formations characteristic of all Sudanese reef systems, with hard and soft corals creating diverse habitats across the site's depth range. The coral condition reflects the pristine water quality and limited human impact that distinguish Sudanese reefs from their more impacted counterparts elsewhere in the Red Sea. Fish populations are abundant and include the characteristic Red Sea assemblage. Schools of anthias create their signature colorful hazes above the coral, while butterflyfish, angelfish, and the various wrasses and groupers that populate these reefs maintain their territories throughout the reef structure. The intermediate conditions allow for relaxed observation of the marine life. The reef structure provides habitat for the complete range of Red Sea species at intermediate depths. Turtles cruise along the reef face, groupers patrol from their overhangs, and the macro community rewards those who look closely. Shark encounters remain possible even at this more accessible site, with grey reef sharks occasionally passing along the deeper edges. Qita El Banna provides quality Sudanese Red Sea diving at intermediate depth, demonstrating the consistent excellence that makes every dive in these waters a memorable experience.
