Siam Bay at Racha Yai is an intermediate dive site on the eastern side of the island that offers a step up from the beginner-friendly bays with deeper reef access reaching twenty meters. This site provides more experienced divers with rewarding reef exploration while maintaining the relatively sheltered conditions that characterize Racha Yai's eastern coast. The underwater terrain at Siam Bay features a reef slope that descends from the shallow sandy fringe into deeper water where the coral coverage becomes more substantial. The reef structure includes granite boulders and coral-covered formations that create habitat complexity supporting a diverse marine community. The twenty-meter depth allows exploration of reef zones that shallower sites cannot access, revealing different species assemblages and larger coral formations. Coral health is good, with hard corals building substantial reef framework and soft corals adding color to the deeper sections. Sea fans and barrel sponges punctuate the reef at intermediate depths, and the overall condition of the coral community reflects the benefits of the clean oceanic water that bathes the Racha islands. Fish life at Siam Bay is diverse and includes species typical of well-established Andaman reef systems. Schools of fusiliers create mid-water movement, while reef species provide constant color among the corals. The deeper sections may reveal larger groupers and the occasional leopard shark resting on sandy ledges. The macro life on the reef surfaces rewards patient observers with nudibranchs, shrimp, and tiny crabs. Siam Bay bridges the gap between Racha Yai's beginner bays and the more advanced sites around the island. The intermediate depth, reliable marine life, and manageable conditions create a dive that works well for divers progressing beyond the entry level and seeking more substantial reef exploration in the beautiful clear waters south of Phuket.
