Spain — Costa Brava & Illes Medes

The Illes Medes marine reserve near L'Estartit is one of the Mediterranean's crown jewels. Protected since 1983, the reserve hosts enormous groupers, barracuda schools, and a labyrinth of tunnels. The Ullastres pinnacles rising from 42 meters are covered in gorgonian fans and attract ocean sunfish in autumn.

Further south, Tossa de Mar offers shore diving beneath medieval walls, and Barcelona's coast has wreck dives accessible from the Port Olímpic.

Peak season runs May through October, with water temperatures from 18°C to 27°C. Best visibility is typically July-September. Winter diving is possible but requires a drysuit in most areas.
