El Ballenato is a beginner-friendly dive site near Cayo Largo del Sur in Cuba's Canarreos Archipelago. This shallow reef features pristine Caribbean coral formations with excellent visibility in the crystal-clear waters south of mainland Cuba. The reef supports colorful parrotfish, angelfish, and butterflyfish, along with large schools of blue tangs and grunts. The sandy areas host conch shells and starfish, while nurse sharks and sea turtles are regular visitors. Cuba's limited diving tourism means the reefs around Cayo Largo remain in exceptional condition, offering some of the healthiest coral ecosystems in the Caribbean.
