Anemone City is one of the most photogenic dive sites in Ras Mohammed National Park — a vast plateau at 10-18 meters whose coral heads are carpeted with hundreds of magnificent sea anemones, each hosting its own family of clownfish and two-banded anemonefish. The density of anemone colonies here is unmatched anywhere in the Egyptian Red Sea, creating an underwater garden of purple, orange, and white tentacles that shelter some of the reef's most charismatic inhabitants. The site sits on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, within the protected waters of Ras Mohammed National Park. Divers descend to the plateau at 10 meters and drift slowly across the coral garden, which is crisscrossed by anemone-covered pinnacles and bommies. Each anemone is home to three to eight clownfish, and careful observers will find damselfish, wrasses, and cleaner shrimps sheltering in the same tentacles. The plateau transitions into a vertical wall on its southern edge that drops past 40 meters into the blue. Beyond the headline anemones, the site hosts exceptional biodiversity. Napoleon wrasse cruise the plateau, hawksbill turtles graze the sponges, and giant moray eels patrol the coral heads. The deeper wall attracts grey reef sharks, schools of barracuda, and the occasional eagle ray. Glassfish clouds and anthias swirl over the reef, while lionfish, scorpionfish, and blue-spotted stingrays reward slow, observant diving along the sandy patches. Anemone City is accessible to Open Water divers given the shallow profile, though Advanced Open Water opens up the adjacent wall dives. The site is reached by day boat from Sharm el-Sheikh and typically dived in combination with Shark Reef, Yolanda Reef, or Jackfish Alley on a Ras Mohammed full-day itinerary. Visibility regularly exceeds 30 meters, and conditions are best from March through November.
