El Veril Grande — the Large Reef Edge — is the more substantial companion to El Veril Chico on Fuerteventura's western Jandía coast near Morro Jable, offering an extended reef edge dive where the greater scale of the topographic feature delivers proportionally more depth variety, more dramatic basalt architecture, and a richer encrusting community across the larger area of the site's drop-off. Despite the larger scale, the site remains classified as beginner-accessible — the depth increase is moderate rather than dramatic, and the conditions remain manageable for those with basic certification and dive experience. The veril grande extends along a longer section of the reef edge than its smaller counterpart, giving the dive a linear, traverse-style character: swimming along the reef edge reveals successive rock formations, overhangs, and sandy sections that provide variety across the dive's full duration. This linear progression is particularly good for beginners developing their orientation skills — the reef edge provides a constant navigational reference, and the direction of travel is always clearly indicated by the changing depth on one side and the shallower reef on the other. The reef edge architecture at El Veril Grande includes the features that make veril diving engaging at any experience level: sections where the edge drops more abruptly and the open blue of deeper water becomes visible, creating the dramatic perspective of a genuine drop-off; sections where the edge is more gradual, allowing exploration of the transitional zone between shallow and deep reef; and overhangs where the reef lip creates sheltered spaces beneath, colonised by the shade-tolerant organisms that prefer these protected environments. Large dusky grouper are present in good numbers along the edge, their territorial positions on prominent basalt formations providing reliable encounters throughout the traverse. Sandy sections between reef structures are worth scanning for the angel sharks that make any Jandía Peninsula dive potentially memorable. The greater length of El Veril Grande means that a single dive here can deliver more variety than the equivalent time at smaller sites — a genuine advantage for those with limited time on the island.
