El Muelle — the Pier — is an intermediate dive in southern Fuerteventura near the Jandía Peninsula, where a pier or jetty structure in the coastal waters provides both the navigational landmark and the man-made artificial reef that gives the site its character. Pier and muelle diving is a specific discipline within the broader dive experience, combining the exploration of man-made infrastructure with the observation of the encrusting community and associated fish life that colonise dock structures in productive coastal waters. Fuerteventura's southern coast has a different character from the northern resorts: less developed, more exposed to the trade winds on some aspects, and with the remote, dramatic quality of the Jandía Peninsula's landscape. The pier in this area serves the local fishing and coastal transport needs of a section of coast that receives fewer visitors than the northern resort zone, and the dive site reflects this lower traffic: the marine community has developed with less disturbance than at heavily visited pier sites, and the fish around the structure are less habituated to and more naturally behaved around divers. The pier pilings descend from the surface to the seafloor, each providing a vertical column of habitat in the productive coastal water. The encrusting community on the pilings — sponges, sea squirts, anemones, and the tube worms that cover every available hard surface in productive Fuerteventura water — creates the artificial reef community that makes pier diving so consistently productive for macro observation. Common octopus den in the recesses at the base of the pilings, and large moray eels occupy gaps between the structure and the seafloor. The intermediate rating reflects the depth of the site and the variable conditions that southern Fuerteventura's position on the more exposed section of the island can produce. In calm weather windows, the Muelle delivers a satisfying structure dive with good marine life in the authentic, less-visited character of the Jandía Peninsula.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
