Lake of Piau-Engaly is a beginner-friendly high-altitude lake dive in the Pyrenees mountains of Midi-Pyrénées, France, situated near the Piau-Engaly ski resort at approximately 1,800 metres elevation. This glacial mountain lake offers a unique diving experience surrounded by dramatic Pyrenean peaks. The crystal-clear alpine water provides excellent visibility, revealing a rocky lakebed sculpted by ancient glacial activity. The high altitude means shorter no-decompression limits, and the cold water temperatures (even in summer rarely exceeding 12°C) require adequate thermal protection. Despite these considerations, the gentle slopes and calm conditions make it accessible to certified divers seeking an extraordinary mountain diving adventure.
