Pulau Matahari is a dive site in the outer reaches of Jakarta's Thousand Islands archipelago, where the cleaner waters further from the mainland support healthier reefs and more diverse marine life. The reef surrounds a small island with slopes descending from 5 to about 25 meters, featuring improved hard coral coverage with table corals, brain corals, and soft coral formations. The increased distance from Jakarta's influence is evident in the better visibility and more abundant fish populations—schools of sweetlips, batfish, and fusiliers are common, along with resident groupers and occasional reef sharks. Sea turtles visit the reef, and macro life is well represented with nudibranchs and shrimp gobies. The site offers a notably better diving experience than the inner islands, making the longer boat journey worthwhile for Jakarta-based divers seeking higher quality reef diving within the Thousand Islands Marine National Park.
