Campbell Shoal is an advanced dive site in the Andaman Islands, India, where a submerged reef rises from deep water to within diving range, creating a magnet for pelagic marine life. The shoal's exposed position in the open Andaman Sea means strong currents sweep across its surface, bringing nutrient-rich water that fuels spectacular coral growth and attracts large predatory fish. Grey reef sharks, silvertip sharks, and large schools of trevally and barracuda are regular visitors, while manta rays have been spotted during plankton-rich periods. The reef itself features pristine hard coral gardens and impressive gorgonian fans that thrive in the current. The remote location and challenging conditions—strong currents, deep water, and limited surface support—make Campbell Shoal suitable only for experienced divers on liveaboard expeditions. This is frontier diving at its finest, offering encounters with the Andaman Sea's impressive pelagic community in a setting of raw oceanic power.
