Garður is a beginner-friendly ocean dive site on the tip of Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, where a rocky coastline descends into the cold North Atlantic waters. The site features a rugged volcanic rock seabed colonized by kelp forests, colourful encrusting organisms, and cold-water invertebrates including sea urchins, starfish, and anemones. Atlantic wolffish, lumpfish during spring, and various species of sculpin inhabit the rocky terrain, while schools of cod and pollack patrol the kelp canopy. Seals from nearby colonies frequently visit, often approaching divers with playful curiosity. The site's exposed position means conditions are weather-dependent, but calm days reveal excellent visibility and a thriving North Atlantic ecosystem. Dry suit certification is required for the 4-8°C water temperatures. Garður offers an authentic Icelandic ocean diving experience where the raw beauty of the sub-Arctic marine environment combines with the dramatic volcanic coastline of the Reykjanes geopark.
