Tree House is the shallowest dive site around Koh Rong island in Cambodia, with a maximum depth of just 6 metres creating an environment that feels almost like an extended snorkelling session with the added freedom of scuba equipment. This beginner-level site is located on Koh Rong's western coast, where a tree-lined shore gives way to a colourful shallow reef. The site's minimal depth means outstanding natural light penetration throughout the entire dive, illuminating the coral gardens in vivid detail that deeper sites simply cannot match. On sunny days, rippling patterns of sunlight dance across the reef, creating a magical visual effect that delights underwater photographers and first-time divers alike. The reef at Tree House consists of dense coral patches growing on a rocky substrate, with narrow sandy channels winding between formations. The protected, well-lit conditions have encouraged exceptional hard coral growth, with plate corals forming overlapping tiers and branching corals reaching upward toward the sun. The coral coverage here is among the densest in the Koh Rong area, suggesting favourable conditions including low sedimentation and minimal storm damage. Despite the shallow depth, marine life diversity at Tree House is impressive. Juvenile reef fish swarm through the coral branches in uncountable numbers, their tiny bodies flashing with colour as they dart for cover at the approach of larger predators. Hawksbill turtles are occasional visitors, drawn to the healthy coral reef for feeding. Nudibranchs crawl along coral surfaces, their brilliant colours serving as warnings to would-be predators. The site is excellent for macro photography, as the shallow depth allows generous bottom times for patient searching. Porcelain crabs in anemones, cleaner shrimp operating their stations on prominent coral heads, and colourful Christmas tree worms embedded in coral colonies all provide willing photographic subjects. Tree House is diveable throughout the year, with the dry season from November to May offering the best visibility and calmest conditions. Even in minimal gear, the warm 28 to 30 degree water makes this a comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable dive.
