The Alice B Wreck is an advanced dive site on Lebanon's central coast near Jounieh, featuring a cargo vessel resting on the Mediterranean seabed. This wreck dive is one of the highlights of Lebanese diving, offering penetration opportunities and a marine ecosystem that has developed around the artificial reef over the decades since the vessel's sinking. The Alice B lies on a sandy bottom, its hull and superstructure providing substantial vertical relief above the surrounding seabed. The vessel's structure remains largely intact, with the bridge, cargo holds, and engine room all identifiable and partially accessible to trained wreck divers. The ship's orientation and the clarity of Lebanon's offshore waters allow for impressive wide-angle views of the entire wreck from a slight distance. Marine colonisation of the Alice B has been extensive, with the hull now covered in a patina of encrusting organisms including sponges, hydroids, and small coral colonies. This biological growth has softened the vessel's angular industrial lines into more organic forms, creating a structure that functions as a productive artificial reef. The wreck concentrates marine life in an area that would otherwise be relatively barren sandy seabed. The wreck's residents include groupers that have claimed territories in the superstructure, moray eels occupying gaps in the hull plating, and schools of damselfish hovering above the deck. Octopuses are frequently encountered in the engine room area, while scorpionfish lie perfectly camouflaged on encrusted metal surfaces. The wreck also attracts passing pelagic species including barracuda and amberjack. The advanced rating reflects the depth, the overhead environment within the wreck's interior spaces, and the potential for Mediterranean current at this offshore location. Proper wreck diving training is recommended for any penetration beyond the main deck areas. Visibility at the wreck site typically ranges from 10 to 20 metres, with the best conditions between June and October. The Alice B is a must-dive for wreck enthusiasts visiting Lebanon.
