San Dimitri Point is an intermediate dive site on Gozo's west coast in Malta, where a dramatic headland creates exciting reef and wall diving conditions in the open Mediterranean. Named after the chapel of San Dimitri perched on the clifftop above, this site offers impressive underwater scenery beneath equally dramatic coastal landscapes. The underwater topography at San Dimitri features a rocky reef extending from the headland, with the seabed dropping in a series of steps toward the deep Mediterranean. Boulder fields created by cliff erosion line the wall's base, creating swim-throughs and overhangs of considerable scale. The geological drama of the west coast is fully expressed in the underwater formations. The reef and wall surfaces support healthy Mediterranean marine communities, with sponges, false coral, and various invertebrate species creating a colourful coating on the limestone. The west coast's exposure to Atlantic influence through the Strait of Sicily means marine conditions here differ subtly from the more sheltered east coast sites. Marine life at San Dimitri Point benefits from the current that flows around the headland. Schools of bream, salema, and damselfish are common, while groupers of various sizes inhabit the overhangs. The headland's position attracts occasional pelagic visitors, and the boulder field harbours octopuses, moray eels, and various crustacean species. The intermediate rating reflects the moderate depth and the west coast's exposure to swell and current. The site is weather-dependent, accessible mainly during calm conditions or when winds are from the east. When conditions align, the diving here is among Gozo's best. Visibility on the west coast frequently exceeds 30 metres. Water temperatures range from 15 to 26 degrees across the seasons. San Dimitri Point delivers atmospheric Mediterranean diving beneath one of Gozo's most scenic headlands.
