Fortizza Reef in Sliema is an advanced shore dive on Malta's urban coastline, where the reef adjacent to the historic Fortizza (Fort Tigné) provides surprisingly rewarding diving in one of the most developed stretches of the island's coast. The advanced rating reflects the depth, potential for current, and the urban maritime environment. The reef extends from the rocky coastline near the fort, with the limestone dropping in steps to deeper water. The terrain features walls, ledges, and boulder fields that create diverse habitats. The urban location means the seabed includes scattered artifacts and maritime debris alongside the natural reef. Marine life at Fortizza Reef is more diverse than the urban setting might suggest. Groupers inhabit the overhangs, moray eels peer from crevices, and octopuses are common. The reef's depth and current exposure attract larger Mediterranean species including occasional amberjack and barracuda. The convenient Sliema location makes Fortizza one of Malta's most accessible advanced shore dives, reachable by public transport and within walking distance of restaurants and accommodation. Visibility ranges from 15 to 25 metres. Water temperatures from 15 to 26 degrees. Fortizza proves excellent diving exists even in Malta's most urban waters.
