Le Polynesian is an advanced wreck dive off Malta's southeast coast, where a vessel of French origin rests on the Mediterranean seabed. This wreck provides experienced divers with a substantial exploration opportunity in waters less frequently dived than the popular north and west coast sites. The wreck sits on the seabed with significant structural remains, creating a substantial profile against the sandy bottom. The hull sections, machinery, and deck structures provide varied exploration points, with penetration possible in several areas. The vessel's size means multiple dives would be needed to fully explore all areas of interest. Marine colonisation has transformed Le Polynesian into a productive artificial reef. The metal surfaces support diverse communities of Mediterranean organisms, with sponges and tunicates creating colourful displays on the hull. The interior spaces harbour groupers, conger eels, and moray eels, while schools of bream and damselfish animate the exterior. The southeast coast location means the wreck receives fewer visitors than the more accessible sites, and the marine life may be less habituated to divers. This relative solitude enhances the sense of discovery that wreck diving provides. The advanced rating reflects the depth, penetration opportunities, and the southeast coast's exposure to wind and swell. Dive planning should account for weather conditions, as the site is only accessible on calm days. Visibility ranges from 15 to 30 metres when conditions are favourable. Water temperatures from 15 to 26 degrees. Le Polynesian offers rewarding wreck diving away from Malta's more crowded dive sites.
