The Schnellboot is an advanced wreck dive off Malta's east coast, featuring the remains of a German World War II fast attack craft (S-boot or E-boat). These high-speed torpedo boats were among the most feared naval weapons in the Mediterranean, and this wreck provides a rare opportunity to dive an Axis vessel in Maltese waters. The E-boat's streamlined hull lies on the seabed, its distinctive low-profile design still recognisable despite decades of submersion and deterioration. The vessel's powerful engine mountings, torpedo tube positions, and bridge structure provide identifiable reference points for the historically informed diver. The wreck's relatively compact size allows full exploration during a single dive. Marine colonisation has been extensive, with the hull now thickly encrusted with Mediterranean organisms. Sponges, tunicates, and algae coat every surface, and the vessel's structure provides shelter for groupers, moray eels, and various reef fish. The wreck's position on the sandy seabed means it concentrates marine life like an oasis. The Schnellboot's presence in Maltese waters reflects the intense naval warfare that characterised the central Mediterranean theatre. German E-boats conducted daring high-speed attacks on Allied shipping, and losses on both sides were heavy. This wreck provides a tangible connection to the experiences of sailors on both sides of the conflict. The advanced rating reflects the depth, the fragile nature of the deteriorating wreck, and the east coast's exposure to current and swell. Careful buoyancy control is essential to preserve the wreck's remaining structure. Visibility on the east coast ranges from 10 to 25 metres. Water temperatures from 15 to 26 degrees. The Schnellboot is a unique and historically important addition to Malta's wreck diving heritage.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
