Mini-Blue Hole is an advanced dive site on Malta's east coast near Marsaskala, where a smaller version of Gozo's famous Blue Hole creates an atmospheric geological diving experience. This limestone chimney, though more modest in scale than its Gozitan counterpart, provides a dramatic swim-through experience in Malta's clear east coast waters. The formation consists of a vertical shaft in the limestone, narrower than Gozo's Blue Hole but featuring the same dramatic chimney effect. Divers descend through the opening as the walls close in, before exiting through a lateral opening that connects to the open Mediterranean. The enclosed descent creates an intimate and slightly more intense version of the Blue Hole experience. The surrounding reef features typical Maltese east coast terrain, with limestone walls, boulder fields, and sandy patches supporting Mediterranean marine communities. Sponges, false coral, and tunicates colour the rock surfaces, while the reef's crevices shelter groupers, moray eels, and octopuses. The advanced rating reflects the confined nature of the chimney, the depth, and the east coast's exposure to swell and current. The narrower dimensions compared to the Gozo Blue Hole mean buoyancy control must be precise. Visibility on Malta's east coast regularly exceeds 25 metres. The Mini-Blue Hole offers a concentrated version of the iconic Blue Hole experience on Malta's main island.
