Water Lilly and Emily is a distinctive advanced dive site off Grand Bay in Mauritius, where two underwater features — a reef formation known as Water Lilly and the remains of a vessel called Emily — combine to create a varied dive that offers both natural reef exploration and wreck discovery in a single immersion. The pairing of these two elements gives experienced divers a dive of exceptional variety in the warm, clear waters of northern Mauritius. The descent from the dive boat drops through warm turquoise water to the reef area known as Water Lilly, named for the lily-like soft coral formations that decorate this section of volcanic reef. The terrain is a complex arrangement of rocky outcrops, coral gardens, and sand channels that create a varied landscape for exploration. Soft corals and gorgonians dominate the deeper sections, their branching forms creating organic sculptures that provide habitat for a remarkable diversity of smaller marine species. Hard corals build the structural framework of the reef, with massive porites and branching acropora creating the three-dimensional complexity that supports the full range of tropical reef life. A swim from the Water Lilly reef leads to the Emily, a vessel whose remains rest on the sandy seabed nearby. The wreck has been substantially colonized by marine growth, with corals and sponges transforming the vessel's structure into an integral part of the reef ecosystem. The wreck acts as a fish aggregation device, concentrating species in the structural complexity of its hull and superstructure. Schools of snapper and fusiliers circle the remains, lionfish occupy the overhangs, and the crevices within the structure shelter moray eels, octopuses, and various crustaceans. The transition between natural reef and wreck creates a fascinating ecological gradient. Species that thrive on the natural volcanic substrate give way to those that prefer the hard surfaces of the man-made structure, and the boundary zone between the two supports a particularly rich mix of marine life. Macro life is exceptional here — nudibranchs, flatworms, and various shrimp species can be found on both the reef and the wreck surfaces. Water Lilly and Emily offers a dive that transcends the typical reef or wreck experience by combining both in a single, varied immersion. The site rewards navigational skill and observational patience, and its dual character ensures that every dive reveals different highlights depending on the time spent at each feature.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
