Red Point is a beginner-friendly dive site off Praslin Island in the Seychelles, where a distinctive granite headland with reddish coloration extends underwater to create an eighteen-meter reef of reliable marine encounters and the unique geological character that defines Inner Seychelles diving. The point's name references the iron-rich granite that gives the rock its distinctive warm coloration. The underwater extension of Red Point features the rounded granite boulders characteristic of the Seychelles, their reddish tones visible even beneath the water where the iron oxide minerals maintain their warm color. This geological character creates a visual warmth unusual in underwater environments, distinguishing the site from the grey granite found at other locations. Coral growth on the reddish granite creates a particularly attractive color combination. The warm rock tones blend with the greens, purples, and oranges of the biological growth to produce an underwater palette that is unique to this site. Hard corals colonize the horizontal surfaces, while soft corals add their characteristic movement to the deeper sections. Fish populations at Red Point include the tropical species typical of the Inner Seychelles, with the headland's position creating current flow that enhances the site's productivity. Schools of fusiliers and damselfish add movement to the scene, while angelfish, butterflyfish, and wrasses contribute their distinctive colors and behaviors. Turtle encounters are common along the granite headland, with both green and hawksbill turtles utilizing the reef for feeding and resting. The warmly colored granite provides a distinctive backdrop for these encounters, creating photographic opportunities not available at other Seychelles sites. Red Point offers a gentle and visually distinctive dive that adds geological variety to any Praslin diving itinerary.
