Aow Leuk is a beginner-friendly dive and snorkel site on the southeastern coast of Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand, a beautiful bay with a maximum depth of ten meters that provides one of the island's most accessible introductions to tropical marine life. The bay's sheltered position, gentle reef, and reliable marine encounters make it a favorite for discover scuba experiences, Open Water training dives, and relaxed reef explorations. The bay opens toward the southeast with a white sand beach backed by lush vegetation, creating a tropical paradise setting. Underwater, the sandy bottom slopes gently from the beach to the modest maximum depth, with coral formations and granite boulders scattered across the bay floor. These reef patches create concentrated areas of marine activity that are easy to find and explore even for the newest divers. Coral health at Aow Leuk is good, with branching corals, brain corals, and massive Porites heads providing reef structure. Anemones with clownfish families are among the bay's most popular attractions, and the warm, clear water allows excellent viewing conditions. The coral gardens support a full community of tropical reef species that keeps every dive interesting. Fish life is diverse despite the shallow depth. Parrotfish, triggerfish, and damselfish are constant presences, while schools of snappers gather around the larger coral formations. Blue-spotted stingrays rest on the sandy patches, and the occasional turtle cruises through the bay. The macro life includes nudibranchs, cleaning shrimp, and various crustaceans. Aow Leuk captures the essence of why Koh Tao has become one of the world's most popular diving destinations. The combination of beautiful setting, easy conditions, reliable marine encounters, and the warm, welcoming water creates diving experiences that launch lifelong passions and provide countless happy memories.
