Koh Krock is an advanced dive site around a small island in the Gulf of Thailand near Pattaya, offering experienced divers access to reef environments influenced by the open Gulf's currents and conditions. The island sits among the cluster of islands southeast of Pattaya, and its relatively exposed position means it receives stronger water movement than the more sheltered nearshore sites, driving marine productivity while demanding solid diving skills. The underwater terrain around Koh Krock features rocky reef formations that extend from the island's base into deeper water. The rock provides essential hard substrate in an area dominated by sandy and silty seabed, and this structural relief concentrates marine life in a way that makes the island's immediate surroundings significantly more biodiverse than the surrounding open water. Coral growth on the rocky substrate includes both hard and soft species adapted to the Gulf's conditions. While the coral coverage is not as dramatic as at Andaman Sea sites, the community is healthy and resilient, having adapted to the higher turbidity and sediment loads that characterize the eastern Gulf. Soft corals and sea fans extend from the more current-exposed faces, taking advantage of the food supply delivered by the flow. Fish life at Koh Krock benefits from the current exposure and the habitat provided by the rocky reef. Schools of snapper and fusilier are regularly encountered, along with the barracuda that patrol the deeper edges. The rock formations shelter groupers, moray eels, and various species of reef fish that use the crevices and overhangs as daytime resting spots. During the right conditions, larger pelagic species may pass through the area. The advanced rating reflects the currents that can develop around the island, which require experience and confidence in moving water. The relatively remote position among the outer islands also means surface conditions can be more challenging than at closer-in sites. Visibility varies with Gulf conditions but can be surprisingly good on days when clean water pushes through the area. The island's location in a military zone means access may be restricted at certain times, and diving typically requires coordination with local operators who have the necessary permissions. This limited access has the benefit of reducing diving pressure on the reefs, contributing to their continued health. Koh Krock offers Pattaya-area divers an advanced option that pushes beyond the standard tourist dive sites into more challenging and rewarding territory. The combination of current-swept reef, healthy marine communities, and the adventure of diving at a less-visited island creates an experience that appeals to experienced divers seeking genuine exploration in the eastern Gulf.
