Shark Point is one of the most famous dive sites in the Phuket area, a series of submerged pinnacles in the Andaman Sea between Phuket and the Phi Phi Islands that has earned its name through regular encounters with leopard sharks resting on the sandy bottom around its base. With a maximum depth of twenty-eight meters and spectacular marine growth, Shark Point delivers advanced diving of genuine world-class quality. The site consists of three main pinnacles that break the surface slightly at low tide, with the underwater structure extending deep into the Andaman Sea. The pinnacles are covered in some of the most vivid and diverse marine growth in the region, with purple and red soft corals creating a color palette of extraordinary intensity. Sea fans of impressive size extend from the rock faces, and the overall visual impact ranks among the finest in Thailand. Leopard sharks are the site's signature residents, found resting on the sandy patches between the pinnacles with remarkable reliability. These graceful, spotted sharks allow close approach for observation and photography, creating encounters that are highlights of any Thailand diving trip. Blacktip reef sharks occasionally patrol the reef edges, and the variety of species adds to the site's shark-diving appeal. Fish life is exceptional. Schools of fusiliers, snappers, and barracuda create moving spectacle around the pinnacles, while the reef sections host the full diversity of Andaman Sea tropical species. The macro life is equally impressive, with seahorses, ghost pipefish, and numerous nudibranch species found on every dive. Lionfish display their elaborate fins near overhangs, and the cleaning stations are always busy. Shark Point is essential Andaman Sea diving. The combination of dramatic pinnacle topography, spectacular marine growth, reliable leopard shark encounters, and the incredible diversity of marine life creates a dive that fully justifies its legendary reputation among Thailand's diving community.
