SS Lord Strathcona Wreck off Newfoundland is an advanced dive on a World War II-era cargo vessel torpedoed by a German U-boat. The wreck rests in the cold North Atlantic waters, its hull broken but still recognizable with the bow section largely intact. The wreck has become a cold-water reef hosting enormous plumose anemones, colonies of dead man's fingers coral, and dense encrustation of mussels and barnacles. Large Atlantic cod, wolfish, and lobsters inhabit the wreck structure. The historical significance of this wartime casualty combined with rich marine colonization makes this a compelling deep wreck dive for experienced cold-water divers.
