SS Rose Castle Wreck off Newfoundland is an advanced dive on another World War II casualty, a large ore carrier sunk by German submarine action in 1942. The wreck sits at considerable depth in cold, dark waters, with the massive hull providing an imposing silhouette visible from distance in good conditions. The ship's enormous size means extensive exploration is possible across multiple dives. Cold-water marine growth including massive anemone gardens, sea urchin colonies, and encrusting sponges have transformed the vessel into a thriving ecosystem. Atlantic wolffish, ocean pout, and large schools of redfish shelter within the wreck. Technical diving equipment and cold-water experience are essential.
