El Rincón — the Corner — is a sheltered, beginner-friendly dive in El Hierro's La Restinga area, named for the tucked-away, protected character of its position on the coast. This is diving in the Mar de las Calmas at its most welcoming: calm, warm water with the extraordinary clarity that makes El Hierro a biosphere reserve worth visiting specifically to dive, in conditions that allow beginners to relax completely into the experience. The site's position in a natural corner of the coastline provides shelter from whatever ambient swell and wind might be present elsewhere, creating a dive environment that is almost always calm. This consistency is one of El Rincón's virtues for developing divers — you can plan with reasonable confidence that conditions will be manageable, and the absence of distraction from challenging surface or underwater conditions allows full attention to be given to the extraordinary environment. The basalt reef at El Rincón descends from the shoreline through a series of ledges and formations to a sandy bottom at accessible depths. El Hierro's water quality transforms even a straightforward reef dive into something special: the clarity means that the full extent of the reef architecture is visible from any position within it, and the detail visible even at distance encourages the kind of exploratory, observant diving that finds the animal life others miss. The encrusting community here reflects El Hierro's protection — richer, denser, and more diverse than at comparable Canary Islands sites without protected status. Angle sharks may be found on the sandy sections between reef formations, and the large grouper typical of El Hierro's well-protected waters are present throughout. The wrasse species endemic to the Canary Islands add colour and constant movement to the reef, and the moray eels that inhabit rock crevices provide reliable encounters throughout the dive. A thoroughly enjoyable, relaxed dive in one of the Atlantic's most outstanding marine environments.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
