El Peñón, also known as the Wreck of Tabaiba, is an advanced dive site off the eastern coast of Tenerife, combining a volcanic pinnacle with a nearby shipwreck at 32 meters depth. The peñón (large rock) rises dramatically from the deep sandy bottom, its walls adorned with black coral, gorgonians, and sponges. The adjacent wreck has become a thriving artificial reef, with its structure colonized by marine growth and inhabited by conger eels, groupers, and schools of jacks. Barracuda and amberjack circle both structures, while the occasional eagle ray or sea turtle passes through. The depth and exposure to currents demand solid advanced certification and good air management.
