Bird Island is a beginner-friendly dive site off a small islet near Yap, Micronesia, where the fringing reef around the island provides sheltered diving in crystal-clear water. The reef features excellent hard coral coverage with table corals, staghorn formations, and massive porites heads hosting vibrant communities of tropical fish. The island above teems with seabirds — hence the name — and below the surface, the nutrient input from the bird colony supports rich marine life. Anemonefish, parrotfish, and schools of surgeonfish are common. The shallow, protected conditions make Bird Island ideal for training dives and snorkelling, with visibility often exceeding 25 metres.
