The Rubis is a legendary French submarine wreck lying off the coast of Cavalaire-sur-Mer in the Var department. This Saphir-class minelaying submarine served in World War II with the Free French Naval Forces before being deliberately scuttled in 1958 to create an artificial reef. Resting at around 40 meters depth, the intact hull is now covered in colorful gorgonians, sponges, and soft corals, attracting large groupers and schools of barracuda. The wreck is a signature deep dive of the French Riviera, reserved for experienced divers comfortable with depth and current. Penetration is possible through several openings but requires proper training.
