Branksome Chine Pipes is a beginner-friendly shore dive near Bournemouth in Dorset, following a series of sewage outfall pipes that run from the beach across the sandy seabed to about 8 meters depth. The pipes act as artificial reefs attracting marine life in an otherwise featureless sandy environment. Crabs, flatfish, blennies, and wrasse congregate around the structures, while cuttlefish are a regular highlight. The site serves as a reliable navigation aid for underwater compass practice. Easy beach access, shallow depths, and minimal current make it popular with Bournemouth and Poole dive clubs for training. Night dives along the pipes can be surprisingly productive, revealing nocturnal species not visible during the day.
