Swanage Pier is one of the UK's most popular beginner dive sites, located in the sheltered waters of Swanage Bay on the Dorset coast. The Victorian pier's wooden pilings create a fascinating artificial reef supporting dense colonies of anemones, sponges, hydroids, and marine worms, while the sandy seabed around the pier hosts cuttlefish, flatfish, crabs, and seahorses. The shallow depth, minimal current, and easy access from the pier steps make it ideal for training dives and night dives — the latter being particularly rewarding with nocturnal species emerging after dark. A small dive fee supports pier maintenance. Swanage Pier is a rite of passage for many British divers and the starting point for countless underwater adventures.
