Batu Belah is an advanced dive site near the Gili Islands off Lombok, featuring a dramatic split rock formation that creates an exciting underwater topography of canyons, overhangs, and swim-throughs. The site descends from 8 to 35 meters along rocky walls covered in sea fans, soft corals, and sponges. The split rock acts as a current funnel, concentrating nutrients and attracting schools of trevally, barracuda, and fusiliers, while white-tip reef sharks and marble rays are often found resting in the deeper channels. The canyon walls host macro treasures including nudibranchs, flatworms, and porcelain crabs among the coral growth. Strong currents can develop, particularly on the exposed side, making good buoyancy and drift diving skills essential. Batu Belah offers a more adventurous alternative to the gentler Gili dive sites, with the underwater rock formations providing a dramatic backdrop for memorable dives.
