Halik is an advanced dive site off the northwest tip of Gili Trawangan, known for its strong currents that bring big fish action and excellent visibility. The reef here forms a dramatic promontory where the current accelerates around the point, attracting large schools of trevally, rainbow runners, and barracuda that hunt in the nutrient-rich water. Whitetip and blacktip reef sharks are regular residents, often seen resting on sandy patches or cruising the reef edge. The exposed reef face features impressive gorgonian fans and barrel sponges that thrive in the constant flow, while the sheltered side reveals healthier soft coral growth and resident turtle populations. Timing is everything at Halik—diving the incoming current provides the best pelagic encounters, while an outgoing current can make the site dangerously challenging. For experienced divers seeking adrenaline in the Gili Islands, Halik consistently delivers some of the area's most exciting encounters.
