Net Cave is an advanced dive site near Pondicherry on India's Coromandel Coast, where an underwater cavern at 37 meters depth contains remnants of old fishing nets that have been colonized by marine growth, creating an eerie yet beautiful underwater environment. The cave entrance is framed by gorgonian fans and soft corals, while the interior reveals the ghostly shapes of the nets now encrusted with sponges, tunicates, and hard corals that have transformed them into artificial reef structures. Large groupers inhabit the cave, and schools of glassfish create shimmering curtains at the entrance. The depth, overhead environment, and potential entanglement hazards from the nets make this a site strictly for experienced divers with proper training. Net Cave offers Pondicherry's most atmospheric and unusual dive, a haunting reminder of human impact on the ocean that nature has begun to reclaim with remarkable beauty.
