Ravines is an advanced dive site near Pondicherry on India's southeastern coast, where a series of underwater canyons cut through the rocky reef to 35 meters depth. The ravines create a dramatic topography with high walls covered in hard corals, sponges, and sea fans, while the sandy channels between host garden eels and bluespotted stingrays. Barracuda schools patrol the deeper sections, and whitetip reef sharks are occasionally spotted resting in the ravine floor. The Bay of Bengal's nutrient-rich waters support healthy soft coral growth that adds splashes of color to the rocky walls. The site is known for its resident population of turtles and large groupers that have become habituated to divers. The depth and potential for current make Ravines suitable for experienced divers, but the dramatic underwater landscape and reliable big fish encounters make it one of Pondicherry's most sought-after dive sites. Ravines showcases the surprising quality of diving found along India's Coromandel Coast.
