Trezza San Pietro is a beginner-friendly dive site in the Gulf of Trieste, northeastern Italy, where a rocky underwater ridge provides one of the area's most productive marine habitats. The trezza (a local term for submerged rocky outcrops) rises from the sandy seabed, creating a concentrated habitat that attracts fish in impressive numbers for the upper Adriatic. The rock surfaces are covered with sponges, sea squirts, and algae that support a community of wrasse, damselfish, and sea bream. Larger residents include well-camouflaged scorpionfish and octopuses hunting among the crevices. The sandy areas surrounding the ridge harbor flatfish and occasionally torpedo rays. Trezza San Pietro is a local favorite for its reliable marine life encounters and easy diving conditions, offering a snapshot of the biodiversity that northern Adriatic rocky outcrops support in an otherwise sandy coastal environment.
