Scoglio del Medico is an advanced dive at an offshore rocky islet west of Ustica, descending to 35 meters through one of the marine reserve's most pristine environments. The volcanic pinnacle's walls are draped in magnificent gorgonian forests, with the deeper sections revealing rare Mediterranean red coral and black coral. Enormous grouper — some of the largest in the Mediterranean — guard the reef, alongside dense schools of barracuda and amberjack. The exposed open-water position can bring strong currents, but the reward is diving in one of Italy's most ecologically valuable and spectacularly biodiverse underwater sites.
