Secca delle Fumose is a fascinating shallow dive in the Campi Flegrei volcanic area near Naples, where underwater fumaroles release streams of hot gas bubbles from the volcanic seabed at a maximum depth of 12 meters. The thermal vents create a surreal landscape of shimmering water, white mineral deposits, and thermophilic bacterial mats in vivid orange and yellow. Despite the volcanic activity, diverse marine life thrives here, adapted to the warm, mineral-enriched conditions. This beginner-accessible site offers a window into active volcanism that feels like diving on another planet.
